Point 7: Hartree was named for Eva Hartree (née Rayner!), the first Lady Mayor of Cambridge in 1924-25 and mother to Douglas Rayner Hartree. Douglas was a very interesting mathematician, physicist and computer pioneer.
I guess other new communities around Cambridge like Eddington and Darwin Green take their names from men of science. Not sure about Marleigh Park and Great Kneighton ...
Strange but true. My first proper job after university was in Hartree House, above Whiteleys, London's first department store. It was named for Douglas Rayner Hartree although I didn't learn that until recently when visiting the hartree.life website (which is now empty).
I’ve lost faith that Labour will solve the housing crisis under Starmer - there just doesn’t seem to be the strategic direction or sense of urgency, despite things going in the right direction.
I think Reed is getting a hugely unfair time from lots of YIMBYs though because of his opposition to the Johnson-era planning reforms, which, let’s not forget, predated Starmer’s embrace of planning reform in late 2022. He’s a party man and if the party line is planning reform then I think he’ll try his best.
I think that read on Reed is right. I’m still relatively optimistic more broadly though - still mostly directionally right. Though agree would be nice to see some more urgency!
Our Cambridge MP, Daniel Zeichner, was relegated to the back benches in the reshuffle. At least he will now be free of collective ministerial responsibility and able to ask interesting questions about his constituency ...
One of the worst and poorly researched articles I have ever read. Go onto the Save Honey Hills website if you want to learn some facts. Anglia water have stated throughout the planning process that they do have capacity at the current site, they spent 20 million of our money upgrading it a few years ago. The planning inspector rejected their plans for multiple reasons , try reading those. O'Malley you are spouting shit.

Ah, interesting! Will update my post! (Also makes much more political sense to name it after a woman!)

A good example of something long term local tax levies should pay for
It's completely mad that Westminster has anything at all to do with this decision except auditing it
