Dear subscribers,
Earlier this morning, I logged on to Substack and hit the “activate payments” button, officially signalling the beginning of a brave new era for Odds and Ends of History.
It is only because of your very kind pre-pledges that I’ve got the confidence to make this leap. I’ll keep this brief, as I’ve already sent two weirdly sincere emails recently, and nobody wants that. But I do want to thank you again for helping me reach the point where I can confidently launch a premium subscription tier. It’s still mind-blowing to me that I’m going to get to do this for (part of) a living.
To briefly recap, the plan going forward is that I’ll alternate week-by-week between free posts and paid posts. And paying subscribers will also get the bonus Odds and Ends mini-round-up of links and other fun stuff. So if you haven’t subscribed yet, now would be a great time to do!
If you pre-pledged, I believe you may need to manually click a few buttons to convert your pledge into a paid subscription. I believe Substack may have sent you an email about this, but in any case, you should be able to login on the Odds and Ends of History website and manage your subscription there.
Perhaps clicking this button will do it too? I’m not sure as I annoyingly I can’t see exactly what you see.
More importantly – I have a gift for early subscribers!
To thank you for being a week-one premium subscriber, if you email me your postal address (psythor [at] gmail.com), I’ll send you a FREE THE PAF! pin-badge. I’ve just ordered a bunch (of course I have), and they should be arriving later this week. Here’s an artist’s impression of what they should look like:
That’s right – the postcode activism (PAFtivism?) is getting serious enough for badges. And if the badges don’t work, we might have to move on to more controversial methods (t-shirts and hats).
Anyway, email me if you want one! And thanks again for subscribing! The first ‘real’ post drops tomorrow as usual!
Thanks again – it really is incredible to actually be launching this!
James
Congratulations James! I'm assuming it would be a bit mean to ask you to post a Free the PAF badge to Australia...
Great job on building a community big enough to support this move!
